Our sightseeing stop today is Fernando de Noronha, the Tourism Center of Brazil. It is an archipelago of 20 small islets and a main island in the Atlantic Ocean, 354 km from the Natal City of Brazil.

The 28.5 km² wide archipelago was first discovered by Portuguese sailor Fernando de Noronha in the early 16th century.

It was used by both the Dutch and Portuguese Armed Forces until the main island became a prison in the 1700s.

Fernando de Noronha Baia do Sancho

The prison, which was subsequently opened, operated until 1957. Some of the prisoners staying here are said to continue their lives without leaving. Nowadays, tourists visiting the main island can come across historical prison ruins in its wonderful nature.

What makes this place interesting is that it once hosted the country’s most dangerous criminals. Nowadays, this paradise is a great place to get away from the crowd but….
